The Loose Brick Furnace
The furnace to the right is the first one I built at Joppa Glassworks, Inc. to test out this idea of a portable furnace that would be easy to pack away when not in use. Because the burner is mounted on an independent stand, everything is stable and fairly rugged. The lid bricks are simply removed to gain access to the crucible. gib furnace
This is the furnace built by Professor D. Iler which he uses for his classroom pouring sessions. He has made an improvement: He has a removable lid system. Soft brick is an amazing material. You can screw metal attachments to the bricks using sheet rock screws. You can also screw brick to brick for even more stability. D_Iler_furnace
